Superintendent Waverly B. Bumbrey, Sr.

He was born and raised in Washington, DC. He was a member at St. James Baptist Church, where he served as the Minister of Music for seven years. Recognizing there was a call on his life, Superintendent Bumbrey began preaching in his early 20s. In 1990, he became the Associate Pastor at Restoration Family Worship Center, Greensboro NC; there he served for 5 years until he assumed his first pastorate shortly there after.

Today, Superintendent Waverly B. Bumbrey, Sr. is the proud Pastor and Founder of Refuge Temple Cathedral of His Glory Church of God in Christ in Detroit, MI, a growing congregation of diverse people. Refuge Temple is strategically located in the inner city of Detroit as a church with a burden to restore and bring restoration to the family unit through proclaiming the Word of God.

 

Pastor Bumbrey serves as the Superintendent of the J. S. Bailey District, Jurisdictional Youth Department Executive Board member, President of the Jurisdictional Department of Evangelism, S.E.M. (Sunday School, Evangelism and Missions) Convention Chairman, and a member of the Ordination Board of the Southwest Michigan First Jurisdiction of the Church Of God In Christ under the leadership of Bishop John Henry Sheard. He is also the President of Region 11: (Canada, Michigan, and Indiana), Executive Board member and Liaison to the Board of Bishops for Int’l Department of Evangelism for COGIC under the leadership of Int’l President Dr. Elijah Hankerson.

 

Pastor Bumbreys educational accomplishments include a Bachelors of Religious Arts from Bibleway Theological Seminary in Detroit, Michigan and a Masters of Arts degree from the Minnesota Graduate School of Theology; where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Pastor Bumbrey is also a professor at the New Beginning Theological Seminary.

 

Pastor Bumbrey is married to Mrs. Patricia Ann Bumbrey. They are the devoted parents of Harvey King, Waverly Bernard Bumbrey, II, and Joshua LeMar Bumbrey. In addition to his many hats of leadership, Pastor Bumbrey is a traveling evangelist and can also be seen on the television broadcast Tell Him Yes.
